Every rescue dog carries a story, but few showcase pure strength and survival quite like Wink. Her story began in terrifying circumstances, but thanks to community rescue efforts, it transformed into a miracle worth sharing.
A Heartbreaking Rescue at Blakely Animal Shelter
Before Wink ever made it to safety, she endured something unthinkable: she was shot in the eye and left trapped under a house for two full days before Blakely Animal Shelter was called to retrieve her.
As a volunteer at Blakely Animal Shelter, Josie Foy met Wink a few days after her arrival. Even after being brought into the shelter, Wink remained deeply hesitant, scared, and clearly in severe pain from her ordeal. It broke Josie's heart to see a sweet pup carrying so much trauma.
The X-Ray & A Miraculous Diagnosis
When the veterinary team took diagnostic X-rays, they revealed an incredible shock: the bullet had hit Wink’s jaw, narrowly missing her brain entirely. Because of where the bullet lodged, she remarkably did not require surgery to heal, suffered no lasting brain damage or lingering symptoms, and preserved full vision in her eye!
The First Day Home & Life in Foster Care
Knowing she needed a quiet environment away from shelter noise to decompress, Josie and her husband, Daniel, welcomed Wink into their home as foster parents. The moment she stepped through their doors, her long path toward physical and emotional healing officially began.
With time, rest, and endless love, Wink's fear vanished. She started dressing up in pink outfits, wearing flower crowns, and showing off her joyful, affectionate spirit.
Joining a Pack of Three Loving Brothers
One of the best parts of Wink's new life was joining a house full of love and dynamic canine companionship. She gained three wonderful brothers who welcomed her into the pack with open paws!
"Wink survived two days under a house with a bullet in her jaw, kept her eyesight, and healed without needing surgery. She is a living miracle."
The Ultimate Foster Fail: Forever Home
It didn't take long for Josie and Daniel to realize that Wink was already right where she belonged. What began as a temporary medical foster turned into a permanent adoption, making Wink an official member of the Foy family!
A special thank you to Mallory Brown and the whole community who cheered Wink on and supported Blakely Animal Shelter throughout her recovery. Her story proves that resilience, foster care, and second chances can save lives.
